Major Announcement Expected at Today’s Guildhall Gathering in Londonderry/Derry

Ahead of today’s Peaceful Gathering at Guildhall Square in Londonderry/Derry, Edwin Duggan has confirmed that an important announcement regarding the future of the Jade’s Law Equivalent campaign in Northern Ireland will be made during his speech on the steps of the Guildhall later this afternoon.

Following weeks of campaigning, public engagement, political discussions, and growing support from communities across Northern Ireland, significant progress has now been made towards securing legislative change within the province.

During today’s address, Edwin is expected to confirm that the Northern Ireland Assembly has given cross-party acknowledgement to the campaign and its objectives, with Stormont committing to the development of legislation that would place a Jade’s Law Equivalent into Northern Ireland’s devolved legislative framework.

The proposed framework is also expected to go even further than the legislation currently progressing through England and Wales. Plans under discussion include provisions that would automatically suspend parental responsibility for individuals convicted of the attempted murder of a spouse or partner — expanding protections for children and families affected by serious domestic violence.

If enacted, these measures would bring approximately two million additional people under the protection of Jade’s Law, or its Northern Ireland equivalent, representing a major step forward in safeguarding vulnerable families and ensuring greater consistency across these islands.

Today’s gathering will also serve as a moment of remembrance, reflection, and solidarity, honouring the 65 victims of domestic homicide lost across the island of Ireland over the past five years.

Supporters, members of the public, and campaign advocates are expected to attend the event at Guildhall Square this afternoon as momentum behind the campaign continues to grow.

Following the conclusion of today’s gathering, the speech notes are now available to view below. Further updates from the event and the ongoing progress of the campaign will be updated shortly. Thank you.

Momentum Builds Ahead of Londonderry/Derry Gathering for Jade’s Law Equivalent Campaign

Momentum continues to grow across Northern Ireland ahead of the upcoming peaceful gathering at the Guildhall in Londonderry/Derry on 29th May, where campaigners, supporters, and members of the public will come together to remember victims of domestic homicide and continue the push for legislative change through the Jade’s Law Equivalent campaign.

Since the official campaign launch on 16th April, public support has surged at an extraordinary rate. The campaign petition is now approaching 13,000 signatures — a figure which, proportionally, has already surpassed the total achieved during the original UK-wide Jade’s Law petition in 2022. The scale of support seen within such a short period highlights the strength of feeling across Northern Ireland and the growing demand for action.

Huge recognition must also go to the many individuals and supporters throughout Northern Ireland who have worked tirelessly over the past month to raise awareness of the campaign, share information, engage communities, and ensure the message continues to reach people from all walks of life.

The unity behind the campaign has been particularly significant. Support has come from across the political spectrum, demonstrating that protecting children and families affected by domestic homicide is not a political issue, but a human one. Among those lending support is First Minister Michelle O’Neill of Sinn Féin, alongside representatives from differing political backgrounds who recognise the importance of meaningful legislative change.

On 29th May, Edwin Duggan will attend a Peaceful Gathering at the Guildhall in Londonderry/Derry, where he will speak to those gathered and stand alongside campaign supporters in remembering the 65 victims of domestic homicide lost across the island of Ireland over the past five years — including 30 from the province and 35 from the Republic of Ireland.

The event also carries deep significance, taking place close to the fifth anniversary of the death of Jade Ward, who tragically lost her life at the hands of her husband. Her case became the catalyst for the original Jade’s Law campaign and continues to inspire efforts to ensure stronger protections are put in place for children and families impacted by domestic abuse and homicide.

Driven by growing support, campaigners are maintaining a clear focus on introducing Jade's Law to Northern Ireland.

Campaign Launched: Extending Jade’s Law to Northern Ireland

A major step forward in the fight for justice and protection — the campaign to introduce a Jade’s Law equivalent in Northern Ireland is now officially underway. Launched at the Guildhall in Londonderry/Derry, this marks the beginning of a determined push to ensure no region is left behind.

With strong early support, a growing working group on the ground, and a clear legislative framework already proven in England and Wales, momentum is building quickly.

Why Justice for Children Shouldn't Stop at the Border

Since "Jade’s Law" was enacted in England and Wales as part of the Victims and Prisoners Act 2024, I have been contacted by a number of people and advocates in Northern Ireland asking the same question: “When will we be protected?” As the architect of the original legislation, it is heartbreaking to see a "postcode lottery" where bereaved families in one part of the UK are protected from their loved ones' killers, while those in Northern Ireland are still forced to face them in court. I am committed to ensuring that every child in the UK is protected from the secondary trauma of a killer maintaining parental responsibility. Today, I’m sending my proposal to the Northern Ireland Assembly to close this gap via the current Criminal Justice (Sentencing etc.) Bill.

Jade's Law - Recent Statement on the Victims and Courts Bill

A new statement has been released following the latest House of Lords debate (10th March 2026) on the Victims and Courts Bill, including important updates on the progress of Jade’s Law and wider changes to Parental Responsibility legislation. It highlights key discussions, government responses, and the ongoing push to strengthen protections for children.

True Crime Awards 2026 Nomination

True Crime Awards 2026. London, Bankside Hilton, 4th June 2026.

For the second year in a row, I have been nominated for an award in the Best Awareness category.

You can view the full shortlist here: True Crime Awards 2026 - Shortlist 2026 - General

This is an absolute honour, and I am humbled to have been nominated for a second year in a row. This nomination is a testament to the overall commitment that we have held over the past few years. Covering incidents throughout the UK, while these have been absolutely horrifying, they have served to inform the country that knife crime in the UK is at epidemic levels and has to be reduced by any means possible. It has been my personal belief that reduction is through education, and this has been my main objective.

No matter the result in June, the mere fact that the campaign has been shortlisted is a testament to the work that has been and continues to be done. Educational materials are being produced, including "Poppy and Jack" for the younger generation, and the second edition of "Breaking the Chain" is soon to be published; we are doing our part.

If I don't get a chance to actually pick up the award in June, I want to take this opportunity to both thank and include the achievement of being shortlisted in this year's True Crime Awards to the following, as they have all done what they can to contribute to the prevention of knife crime in the UK:

Lisa Wilkinson
Jess Wilkinson
Janette Wilkinson
Jillian Wilkinson
Dylan Ashfield
Emma Cranston
Katie Cranston
Paul Ward
Vince Roberts
Flintshire Leader
Steve Craddock
Arron Evans
BBC Wales
Sarah Easedale
ITV Wales
Joanne Gallagher
Shotton Town Council
Connah's Quay Town Council
North Wales Police Crime Commissioner's Office

And finally:

Cllr Rachael Fenwick, the unseen force behind the whole campaign. If it were not for her administrative expertise, the campaign would not have the voice that it has. The website, which she has voluntarily kept up to date, has ensured that the work being done is keeping the public informed in real time. It is so often forgotten by organisations that the true heroes are the administrators. Thank you, Rachael.

Welsh Centre for Crime and Social Justice (WCCSJ)

I have been delighted to be invited to give a presentation at this year's WCCSJ Conference, which will be held at Wrexham University on 6 May 2026.

The subject I will be speaking about is "Danielle's Law". As this is a live campaign and one I am now leading, I had no doubt that this should be the focus of my presentation.

I was asked to submit an extract, which I did, and I’m pleased to say it was accepted.

Staying Safe with Poppy & Jack

I’m pleased to introduce Poppy and Jack — two characters I’ve created to support younger children in learning about safety, kindness, and making good choices in the world around them.

Staying Safe with Poppy & Jack is a growing collection of animated stories, inspired by a book (also in the making), designed to introduce early safety awareness in a calm, age-appropriate way. Each story focuses on simple, everyday situations children may recognise, helping them understand what to do, who to talk to, and how to feel confident in their decisions.

There is no graphic content, no fear, and no shock — just clear, positive messages wrapped in gentle storytelling children can understand.

Danielle’s Law and the Transformation of a Core Principle of British Criminal Law

I thought long and hard before publishing the article I have just shared on Danielle’s Law and the ethical crossroads it presents for British legal tradition.

Whilst perhaps most people would instinctively act in a way that feels morally and ethically proportionate to today’s societal norms — the difficult question is whether it is right, or even workable, to enforce that expectation on everyone through law.

In the piece below, I have aimed to provide a fair and considered exploration of the arguments on all sides.

Jade's Law Enactment: The Open letter has had a positive impact

An open letter calling for urgent action on the enactment of Jade’s Law has led to a formal meeting with the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) to discuss ongoing delays and the current position of the legislation.

Following the publication of the open letter, I was invited to attend a meeting at the Ministry of Justice, which took place on 28 January 2026. The purpose of the meeting was to address concerns surrounding why Jade’s Law, despite being passed, has still not been fully enacted and remains unavailable to protect families who desperately need it.

After the meeting, I agreed to wait for the Ministry of Justice’s official public response before issuing a detailed statement. The MoJ subsequently prepared a disclosure outlining their position, which enabled an accurate and transparent account of the discussion to be shared publicly.

A full report on the meeting, including the Ministry of Justice’s response and the current status of Jade’s Law, was then published via LinkedIn to ensure the information was accessible and on the public record.

The continued delay in enacting Jade’s Law remains a serious concern for campaigners, survivors, and families affected by domestic abuse. While engagement with the Ministry of Justice is a necessary step, the lack of tangible progress reinforces the frustration felt by those who have waited far too long for the law to be implemented.

Knife Crime & Jade’s Law: New Podcast Shines a Light on a Law Still in Limbo

I've recently taken part in a powerful new podcast with Emma Cranston, a survivor of domestic abuse and a long-standing advocate for victims through her podcast work and survivor support groups.

We first met during the Jade’s Law campaign and have remained close allies ever since. Emma has continued to support my Knife Crime Prevention Campaigns, and with Jade’s Law still not enacted, she felt it was vital to bring the issue back into public focus.

Recorded on 18 January 2026, the podcast revisits the real human cost behind legislative delay, the links between domestic abuse and knife crime, and why families are still being failed by inaction. It’s an honest, hard-hitting conversation that refuses to let the issue quietly fade away.

I would like to extend my sincere thanks to Emma for her continued support, commitment, and willingness to keep using her voice to stand up for victims and families who are still waiting for change.

Jade’s Law: Passed, But Still Not Enacted

Jade’s Law became legislation over 18 months ago — yet it still hasn’t been enacted. Knife Crime in the UK: Annual Report on a Nation in Crisis

In August 2024, I published a report on the alarming rise in knife crime across the UK, catalysed by the horrific murders of three young girls in Southport. That tragedy was not an isolated incident; it was a symptom of a deeper societal wound. A year later, the landscape has shifted. There are signs of progress, but the crisis is entrenched.

This yearly review for 2025 examines the latest data, policy developments, and community responses, while renewing the call for a dedicated Minister or Commissioner for Knife Crime Prevention.

Manchester Synagogue Terror Attack

On 2 October 2025, a terror attack at Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation in Manchester took the lives of Melvin Cravitz and Adrian Daulby whilst injuring others, leaving a community in total shock. After I visited, I have written my reflection on the tragedy, the ongoing fight against knife crime, and why remembrance must be paired with action.

Raising Awareness at Leigh Sports Arena

Great afternoon out in Manchester continuing my mission to raise awareness of knife crime and to promote my new book. The response was brilliant – every conversation started is another step toward spreading understanding of the devastating impact knife crime has on individuals, families, and communities.

Leigh Sports Arena provided the perfect backdrop for the campaign, with people stopping by to talk, ask questions, and pick up information about education, awareness, and support. Each person reached makes a real difference, helping the message grow wider and stronger.

A big thank you goes out to Emma and Katie for their fantastic support on the day, and to all those who took the time to engage with me.

It was a great afternoon of campaigning, and we’ll keep building momentum until the message reaches every corner of our communities.

Back to School – A Safety Guide for Parents

Tragedy in Bury: 19-Year-Old Fatally Stabbed

On Friday night, 1st August 2025, a young life was tragically taken in Bury, Greater Manchester.

At around 9pm, a 19-year-old male was stabbed to death in what Greater Manchester Police (GMP) are treating as a targeted attack. The victim has not yet been formally named. Police initially arrested three men on suspicion of murder and are continuing their investigations.

(Update 06.08.25 Since this was originally written, GMP has confirmed that a further two men have now been arrested in connection with the incident.)

I visited the scene shortly after the news broke. The area remained cordoned off with a strong police presence as officers carried out their work. It’s a sobering reminder of how quickly violence can erupt—and how it ripples through entire communities.

GMP is now appealing for anyone with information to come forward. If you saw anything or know something that could help, please contact them quoting log 3354-01/08/25.

I’ve uploaded a video from the scene to my YouTube channel: Bury Incident YouTube

My thoughts are with this young man and his family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.

Connah's Quay Summer Festival 2025

I was really pleased to take my stall, my book, and the TRACK system to the recent Connah's Quay Summer Festival. It was a fantastic opportunity to speak with so many members of the public who showed genuine interest in understanding my cause. I was quite humbled by the response and the thoughtful conversations throughout the day.

Many people brought up Jade's Law - something that is always at the forefront of our minds. It was especially meaningful to be joined all day by Jade’s father, Paul, who has been an unwavering supporter of my work and campaigns. His presence and continued help mean a great deal, both to me and to the wider movement we are building.

It was also a pleasure to sell a few of my recently published books, which was a lovely bonus. Even more importantly, I had the chance to demonstrate the TRACK system to several people. You never know—this simple but vital education could one day help you to save a life.

All in all, it was a successful and rewarding day. Thank you to everyone who stopped by, including the Connah's Quay Town Council Vice-Chair and consort, Cllr Vince Roberts and Cllr Rachael Fenwick, and those who made a purchase, it was a real pleasure meeting you.

Parliament's War Effort - Lates Event

On 11 July, I have the honour of attending a special event at the Palace of Westminster, described by the organisers as “an unforgettable evening dedicated to the remarkable individuals who safeguarded and upheld Parliamentary democracy during World War Two.”

It is a privilege to be invited to such an auspicious occasion, where the legacy of those who defended democracy will be remembered and celebrated. I will use this unique opportunity to continue raising awareness of the knife crime epidemic in the UK and to promote the vital work behind the TRACK system.

While democracy was fiercely protected during the war, I believe it’s essential to ask: what value does that democracy hold if young lives continue to be lost within it — taken by knives on our streets? My message will reflect on this stark reality, aiming to engage with key figures in attendance and make a lasting impression for the sake of meaningful change.

The Intersection of Art and Reality: Adolescence, Harvey Willgoose, and the Consequences of Knife Crime

Knife crime among young people is one of the most pressing issues facing modern society. It's devastating impact ripples through families, schools, and communities, leaving lasting scars. The Netflix series Adolescence tackles this issue head-on, offering a raw and unfiltered portrayal of the consequences of youth violence. As someone deeply involved in knife crime prevention campaigns, I was drawn to the series, particularly its depiction of a 13-year-old boy accused of stabbing a fellow pupil. Having personally attended the scene and reported on the tragic stabbing of Harvey Willgoose in Sheffield in February 2025, I found Adolescence to be a poignant and often harrowing reflection of real-life events. This article explores how the series mirrors the Harvey Willgoose case, the emotional and societal impact of knife crime, and the urgent need for prevention and intervention.

An article about this publication was also featured in the leader live here: www.leaderlive.co.uk (new window)

Meeting with Jahziah's Family: A Tragic Loss and a Call for Change

Yesterday I met with the family of Jahziah, the 13-year-old boy who tragically lost his life in the Oldbury stabbing incident this August. The devastation this has caused his family is beyond words. They were incredibly brave to open up to me during such an unimaginably painful time, and my thoughts remain with them as they navigate their grief.

Despite their heartbreak, Jahziah's family is determined to raise awareness about the impact of knife crime on families and the wider community. They have asked me to act as their spokesperson for the media, and I feel deeply honoured to have their trust. Additionally, they have asked me to perhaps share a message at Jahziah's funeral, highlighting the far-reaching effects of knife crime and the profound pain it causes - not only to the victim's family but to the entire community.

As the circumstances surrounding Jahziah's death are still under investigation, it is important to respect the process. At this time, no specific details can be shared due to strict reporting restrictions of any individual under 18 years of age. I will ensure on my part that the family's privacy and the integrity of the investigation are respected as we move forward.

This tragedy underscores the urgent need for us to confront knife crime head-on. My commitment to this cause remains unwavering, and I hope that by raising awareness, we can all work together to create a safer future for our children and our communities.

Interview on Zombie Knife and Machete Legislation

Today I'll be interviewed by Global Radio to discuss the new laws regarding the sale of Zombie Knives and Machetes. These laws are set to come into effect on the 24th, and the interview will be broadcast on the same day.

I'll be voicing my deep concerns about the ineffectiveness of this new legislation. Shockingly, for a knife to be classed as a "Zombie Knife," it must meet three specific criteria:

  1. It must have a cutting edge.
  2. It must have a serrated edge.
  3. It must feature images or writing that suggest it's intended for violent use.

This means that as long as a knife doesn't bear such images or writing, it remains legal to purchase. This loophole is absurd and undermines the very purpose of the legislation.

I've consulted with several criminal barristers, and they share my concerns. They believe that this loophole will be the primary defense for anyone caught purchasing these dangerous weapons even after the 24th of September.

In addition to the interview, I'll be in Birmingham on the 24th to meet with the family of Jahziah, the 13-year-old boy who tragically lost his life in a stabbing incident in Oldbury. I will provide an update on this meeting in due course.

My deepest condolences go out to Jahziah's family during this incredibly difficult time. I am deeply appreciative of their willingness to share their grief and their story with me, in the hope of raising awareness about the devastating impact of knife crime. It is through their courage and that of the many families like them, that we can bring these tragic events to the attention of Parliament and work towards meaningful change to prevent future tragedies.

CrimeCon UK Awards 2024

The ceremony gave special recognition to the Jade's Law campaign, named after Jade Ward, who was tragically killed by her ex-partner in 2021. Jade's Law seeks to remove parental rights from parents convicted of murdering the other parent. This important legislative change was honoured for its profound impact on justice and its positive influence within the community.

Illegal Weapons Amnesty Announcement

The Home Office has just unveiled a new scheme aimed at removing illegal weapons from our streets (the scheme applies to 'zombie-style' knives and 'zombie-style' machetes) - a positive step forward, but it falls short of addressing the broader, more pressing issues that require action. We need a Dedicated Minister for Knife Crime Prevention that I am presently campaigning for. Read more here on my campaigns page: Campaigns

Full details and information on how to surrender prohibited offensive weapons and claim compensation under the scheme have been published on the gov.uk website below:

Southport Tradgedy

The whole nation is deeply shocked by the tragic events in Southport and felt compelled to be there, I witnessed the profound impact it has had on the community. This heartbreaking incident only strengthens my resolve to push for the appointment of a dedicated minister or UK Commissioner for knife crime prevention. My heartfelt sympathy and condolences go out to everyone affected by this horrific crime, especially the innocent children and their families, neighbours and residents of Southport.

We are a wonderfully diverse community. Let's strive to make it even better by listening to one another and moving forward together. Keep an eye on my events page to see where I will be out and about next! Events Page

Veterans & Community Hub CIC

Mondays are special at the Queensferry Institute, thanks to the VC Hub's regular Music and Song Day. It's a day filled with creativity, community, and camaraderie, making it a highlight of the week for many, including myself. Whether you're a veteran, a family member, or simply someone who loves music and art, Mondays at the Queensferry Institute have something special for you. Local Social Car Group Visit

I took some time today to visit two Deeside based car enthusiast groups at Castle Cafe in Ewloe, Deeside: Bunch of Fives (MX5 owners) and the local Mini group receiving a fantastic warm welcome. Both clubs foster a deep connection through a shared passion for cars and boast a loyal following within the community. These groups serve as a lifeline for many, helping to combat social isolation and providing a sense of belonging. They bring together people of all ages and backgrounds, creating camaraderie that might not have formed otherwise. As the groups also seek to primarily meet at various cafe's, restaurants, pubs etc they are also helping support local business. One of the hot topics of course was the 20mph restrictions in Wales and the upset caused by failure of our local government to listen to voices despite such an overwhelming petition. Is this a topic of debate for you too? Have your say!

D-Day 80th Anniversary Commemorations in Mold

The community of Mold organised an incredible festival to commemorate D-Day. I thoroughly enjoyed attending and meeting everyone. The effort put into this event by the entire community was truly admirable. The importance of remembrance, recognition, and raising awareness for future generations was evident to all. Well done to everyone involved!

Please note that our participation in all D-Day commemorations was strictly to show support and respect, and was not connected to any political or campaign activities. These events were organised by our local authorities, and we were there solely to honour and remember this incredibly important 80th anniversary.

D-Day 80th Anniversary in Connah's Quay

This morning, I attended the wreath-laying ceremony at the Connah's Quay and Shotton War Memorial in honor of the 80th D-Day Anniversary. Afterwards, I visited the V C Hub/Caffinaafi to engage with the staff, veterans, and community members.

Later, a few team members and I attended the 'Lighting of the Beacon' ceremony. This poignant tribute featured readings by the chair and a student from Coleg Cambria, who delivered a translation in Welsh. As a veteran, I was deeply proud to be a part of both events.

True Crime Awards Ceremony 2024

This evening, I proudly stood alongside Karen Robinson and Paul Ward at the True Crime Awards Ceremony, hosted by CrimeCon UK where together we were honoured with a special recognition award by public vote for our work on 'Jade's Law'.

Ceremonies like the True Crime Awards serve as powerful reminders of the impact individuals and communities can have when they unite in pursuit of justice and positive change.

Petition Campaign of the Year Award Ceremony

Spent the day at Westminster, pictured here with the speaker of the House of Commons in recognition of the 'Jade's Law' Campaign which was nominated for 'Petition Campaign of the Year Award'. I was so honoured to be here. Well done #TeamJade: Philippa Ward, Karen Robinson, Paul Ward, Kennedy Mcveigh, Vicki Robinson, Ang Murton, Tay Lor, Emily Hill, Chantel Westwood, Lauren Johnson, Liam Catton and Andy Jones who either passed out flyers on the streets of London, Manchester, Blackpool and Chester, or worked so hard spreading the message on the internet. A special mention to the 130,000 people who signed the petition too! Without these wonderful people, my vision to change the law would have been so much more difficult. THANK YOU! TOGETHER WE MADE A DIFFERENCE.

Celebrating the Chair's Charity Ball, Connah's Quay

Attended an extraordinary evening at the Connah's Quay Town Council Chair's Charity Ball held at the Civic Centre, Connah's Quay. The event brought together dignitaries, councillors, local business leaders, and members of the public for a delightful three-course dinner, accompanied by live entertainment, an auction, and a raffle, all in support of the Shooting Star Cancer Support Charity. The chair delivered a heartfelt speech, demonstrating a deep commitment to the community he has chaired over the past 12 months. A heartfelt appreciation to Chairman Cllr Alan Manship, Consort Ann Manship, Town Clerk Suzanne Wilson, and the dedicated staff for their tireless efforts in organising such a splendid event for the community!

Buckley Precinct Easter/Spring Market

This morning was well spent at the Buckley Precinct Easter/Spring Market. I had the pleasure of meeting some wonderful individuals and forging valuable connections. Sharon Beck, the event organiser, showcased the incredible work she and her team do at Shelbys, alongside Andy and his dedicated crew at The Shed woodwork to wellness in Saltney. It was inspiring to see small businesses like The Crafty Hiker and Elaine, who crafts personalised gifts from home, thriving in the community. Engaging with members of the Buckley Residents Group allowed me to delve into the concerns and aspirations of the community, sparking fruitful discussions on how to enact positive change. Overall, it was a highly productive and rewarding experience.

'Together at Christmas' Christmas Day at Caffinaafi

Teaming up with Caffinaafi and the VC Hub at Fron Road, Connah's Quay, we orchestrated a heartwarming Christmas Day event for the community, ensuring that no one spent the day alone. The outpouring of support from the cafe owners, local councillors, Community Champions, and the public was truly remarkable. Together, we provided abundant food, drinks, and festive spirit throughout the day. The turnout was tremendous, with a constant stream of people joining us - some to show their support, others seeking companionship, and many in need of nourishment. I was deeply touched by the overwhelming interest and assistance extended to us. Our community's solidarity is nothing short of extraordinary, and I am honoured to be a part of it. I'm already planning a larger-scale event for Christmas 2024, so stay tuned for updates!
